Bremen Airport came into existence in 1913, making it one of Germany's most historic airfields. By 1920, the recently founded KLM Airlines began operating flights to Bremen, link major cities in Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.
The post-war years of the 1940s and '50s saw an increase in passenger numbers and flights to the USA and Brazil were started. 1989 was an important year in Bremen Airport's history, when more than one million passengers used the airport and this figure has grown steadily ever since.
